    Butler Chapel AME Zion Church

Gerrymandering of districts in Tuskegee blocked African American citizens from having input in local political life. Butler Chapel AME Zion Church was one of the first churches in Alabama to seek equality for voting in city elections and served as a rallying point and training site for nonviolent demonstrations against this injustice. You can visit the church, which is still active.
