The U.S. Civil Rights Trail inspires travelers to explore the places where courageous actions changed the course of history and to experience transformational stories.

By elevating these sites, we preserve their legacy, strengthen communities, and inspire future generations.

The U.S. Civil Rights Trail elevates important historical sites that tell the stories of the Movement to inspire travelers through facilitating increased visitation, connectivity and collaboration.

We believe that walking in the footsteps of the Civil Rights Movement is a transformative experience. We believe that increasing the number of people visiting Civil Rights Trail destinations is beneficial for the country and the economies of destinations.

Step two - TIMELINE

  • Application Deadline: July 15

  • Review: Fall Board meeting

  • Notification: October/November

  • Launch: Black History Month
Step three - UPON APPROVAL

If selected, you’ll receive an approval email from the U.S. Civil Rights Trail, followed by a request from our marketing agency for the assets needed to add your site to the trail, along with next steps and timing.

Fee: $3,500 one-time fee to be paid within 60 days of acceptance
